I am overjoyed to share that I will be joining for Leg 1 of 5 Gyres first land based expedition this summer. This Tahoe Rim Trail Association guided backpacking experience will include daily TrashBlitz litter surveys and microplastic sampling of the air and soil that will help establish a comprehensive baseline of plastic pollution in the Tahoe Basin, contribute to a peer-reviewed scientific paper, and will inform stronger policies and innovative solutions aimed at protecting human health and the environment from microplastic pollution.

This is near the PCT trail junction where I crossed 7 years ago, nearly to the day and where I: experienced an outpouring of trail magic, dreamt up guided walking meditation groups, writing a kids book, and working in conservation.

To be honest, making this decision makes me feel simultaneously right at home and out of my element.
